This is a restored Wards Signature 5100 manual typewriter in excellent
condition. This machine has been cleaned, adjusted, repaired, and restored to
working condition, and is ready to use as soon as you get it home.

The Wards Signature 5100 was part of a series of "house brand" typewriters
made for Montgomery Wards by one of several different manufacturers. This
model, the Signature 5100, was made by Brother of Japan. Like other Brother
machines, the 5100 was well designed and reliable.

As with all my restored machines I've cleaned, lubricated, adjusted, and made
the necessary repairs to bring this typewriter back to working condition. It is
ready-to-use as soon as you get it home.

**COSMETIC CONDITION**
Cosmetically, this Wards Signature 5100 is in excellent shape. The blue shell
with cream keys is a pleasing, calming look, while the brushed metal accents
and control pieces add a clean look to it. Overall the machine has very few
wear or use marks and looks like a well-cared-for vintage typewriter.

This Wards Signature 5100 comes with its original carrying case, which is in
excellent codition.

**MECHANICAL CONDITION**
Mechanically, this Wards Signature 5100 typewriter is in excellent condition.
The machine types crisply and responsively, all control elements function, and
though the platen has hardened some, it only leaves minor indents in the page
as you type. It has a pica (10 characters-per-inch) typeface.

All of my reconditioned typewriters are ready-to-use as soon as you get them

**Extra Ribbons**
I always recommend keeping an extra typewriter ribbon in stock. All of my
typewriters use inked ribbons, and these ribbons do not last forever.

The life of each ribbon depends on several factors, such as how long it's been
opened and how much you use the machine, but all ribbons need to be replaced
eventually. I sell ribbons that fit almost all of my vintage and antique
typewriters, and I always recommend that you keep at least one new ribbon ready
if needed.

**Typewriter Pad**
A typewriter pad is a piece of fabric designed to do two things: lessen the
sound of your machine by limiting vibrations that travel from the typewriter
through the desk or typing surface, and keep the typewriter from moving around
on the typing surface--sometimes called "walking"--as you type and move the
carriage.

My typewriter pad is designed to address both of these issues. The pad
features a ribbed non-woven fabric top and a rubberized bottom. This allows the
pad to both limit vibrations and keeps your typewriter in place both by
gripping the machine's feet and the typing surface at the same time.

I always recommend a typewriter pad for all machines, but especially if you're
interested in a small portable, or intend to use your machine for heavy writing
purposes.

**Typewriter Care and Cleaning Kit**
A typewriter is a machine, and all machines need maintenance. My typewriter
care and cleaning kit is designed to allow you to keep your machine in as good
a shape for as long as possible. It includes tools such as high-grade machine
oil, typewriter brushes, and a cleaning cloth along with a brief guide to guide
you on how to keep your machine in good shape.

If you intend to use your machine for anything beyond display purposes, having
the care kit around is something I always recommend.
