This fine Adler Gabriele 25 vintage typewriter was made in 1974 (serial number
15312572) and represents what you would expect from quality German engineering.
The Adler company was formed in 1896 and made its first typewriter two years
later. The font size is the desirable Elite (12 characters per inch). For its
age, this example and the accompanying case are in good condition. There is a
little fading on some letters, possibly caused by hardening of the rubber
platen over time and/or wear to some of the type arms and slugs, but overall
the print quality is still good for its age (see the photo of the typing test).
This larger portable model combines some of the qualities of standard (desk)
typewriters with a more compact design, ideal for the home office.

The typewriter comes with a reproduction of the user's manual.

The robust plastic case is in good condition and retains its key. Two metal
clips secure the typewriter to the base of the case for storage and to protect
the typewriter in transit.

Please study the photographs as these form part of the description of the
typewriter and its condition. All typewriters are sold as fully functioning
(back space, paper advance, alignment of text, carriage movement, margins, bell
etc) unless otherwise stated above.

All typewriters are cleaned and serviced prior to sale and provided with a new
ribbon. Where necessary, repairs are undertaken in respect of worn parts. These
repairs typically include replacement of the rubber paper guide rollers which
sit against the platen and can degrade over time. Typewriters normally need
little maintenance, once repaired, but benefit from regular use to keep them
running smoothly. I take a sympathetic approach to renovation and believe that
some cosmetic wear (or patina) to a vintage machine is part of its character
and history. I will only apply paint where absolutely necessary. In respect of
portable typewriters, the cases can suffer more damage and wear than the
typewriters. I take the same sympathetic approach to cleaning and repairing
cases but will completely re-cover a vintage case with appropriate fabric if
there is too much damage.
